Kalu Dam Project and Regional Water Supply Scheme
The work of development of Kalu Water Supply Project has been undertaken to meet the Water Supply demand in the Eastern Sub-Region of MMR. The project is designed to provide 1140 MLD water supply and will be used to augment the Water Supply of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan-Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Corporations / Councils.

- Live- Storage - 401.24 Mcum (1140 MLD)
- Length of dam - 802 m
- Height of dam - 61.28 m
The Regional Water Supply Scheme based on the available total water supply from Kalu source will be formulated and implemented to provide bulk water to the ULBs located in the Eastern Sub Region of MMR.
The Kalu water supply project is to be developed in stages i.e. construction of dam on Kalu river and implementation of Regional Water Supply Scheme based on available total quantity (1140 MLD) of water. The work of construction of Kalu dam is being carried out through Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC), Thane as deposit work and the work of implementation of Regional Water Supply scheme will be carried out by MMRDA once dam construction is completed. MMRDA has obtained Administrative Approval for expenditure on this project.
The dam construction Work is being executed by KIDC, Water Resources Department in GoM. It has stayed w.e.f. 2/3/2012.
